If it doesn't reduce the buzz, adjust it back. Loosen it slightly and see if that works to reduce the buzz.

So, the easy answer for you is trial and error. To do this you will need a capo, some automotive feeler gages, and some knowledge which you don't have. for the super paranoid, heavier strings will keep you away from that, seemingly, most misunderstood feature on the guitar, the truss rod.īut, to really know if the neck could use a little bit more relief, you should measure the neck dip. Heavier strings have the effect of putting more tension on the neck which increases relief and action. Unless a truss rod is defective, it's pretty hard to break it.Īnyway, you are correct that heavier strings will put more tension on your neck too. The paranoid, inexperienced folk will to ANYTHING to avoid that truss rod because they are afraid to break it.

That's why they install truss rods in the neck. Yet, if the guitar was setup properly at the factory, the most likely thing is that the wood in the neck moved. The classic noob move with a guitar is to immediately try to fix string buzz at the bridge when a guitar arrives from the factory. If it doesn't help, loosen the strings again and put it back where it was.easy. Loosen the strings.and don't force anything. Based on what you have described, a 1/8th to 1/4th counterclockwise turn can fix it.and it's EASY to do. I've had a lot of experience with string buzz and adjusting truss rods. More relief should result in less string buzz. Slight relief often results in some string buzz. But, if this works, some of the saddles may need to be adjusted back to achieve perfect intonation. This could also reduce the buzz on the low E string. It's easy to loosen the truss rod a little bit, which will increase the relief and effectively raise the action on all the strings a bit. This is why I suggested trying to adjust the truss rod. There is not one right spot for relief.there's a range.
Some people like very little relief while others like more relief. Also, usually, when a saddle goes up, it will also need to be adjusted back (away from the neck) for proper intonation.īut, neck dip and relief in the neck is a personal preference thing. It is possible that adjusting up the saddle on just the low E-string saddle will help reduce the buzz. The way you adjust the string action on that guitar is with the little micro-screws on each saddle.
